Story time in Camp Leo!

July 25th

Today Camp Leo campers got the special treat of seeing the Theater Camps newest production, that of Tale Town.

A comedy about a town that is focused on the idea of each member telling a fairy tale at the annual story swap, Tale Town is a magical place in danger. An evil sorcerer, with a box that will tell any story to its viewer (for a price) has been stealing tales! Our heroine, a traveling peddler, manages to step in however and miraculously saves the day. After combatting all the most famous fables (from Little Red to the Pied Piper) of course.

With another few weeks of Theater Camps coming to Camp Leo the campers are looking forward to a future production!

Rainbow People!

July 25th,

Today in Camp Leo we have been working on an arts and crafts project that has come to our campers from thousands of miles away: South Africa to be exact. Desmond Tutu, the famous South African bishop, once called the members of his country Rainbow People because of the amazing love felt for all. Since then street vendors within South Africa have come up with a new way display this love, creating mobile figurines from wood or cardboard, called Rainbow People.

Camp Leo participated in this tradition by creating their own rainbow people, and made some amazing designs!

Light Painting

July 22nd,

Camp Leo got to play with one of the coolest types of photography, light painting. If you've used a film camera before your probably familiar with words like aperture, and shutter speed. Bu these concepts get a little tricky with the new-fangled digital camera. If you find the shutter option on your camera and change it manually, you too can experience these awesome works!

TIGER GIRLS

JAGUARS

The way these photos are created is by extending the exposure, or shutter speed, to a longer time. If you have a digital camera you may be familiar with a small screen or number that says something like, 1/60 or 1/80. These are shutter speeds, showing the fractions of time that light is allowed. If you change the setting to 8" or 10" seconds the picture will extend, allowing light to be picked up in a trail. (There are several other settings that should be changed, for more information please contact the Camp Leo Art Coordinator!)
